AWS Finland October Meetup - Sponsored by Wärtsilä

For the second October meetup, we headed to Wartsila’s headquarters on Hiililaiturinkuja in Helsinki. Having a major industrial company like Wartsila host an AWS community event was a strong statement about how broadly cloud adoption has spread across industries in Finland.

Anna-Maria Ronnqvist from Wartsila welcomed everyone, and Rolf Koski followed with news from the community and his signature “New and Noteworthy from AWS” update. The Wartsila team then presented on creating AWS-powered global HR services, showing how even traditional enterprise functions like HR can be transformed through cloud. Askar Ibragimov from Futurice closed the evening with a technical deep dive on building an AWS serverless setup with zero-downtime deployments and end-to-end testing in mind – a topic that resonated strongly with the developers in the audience.

100 people attended, making this one of our largest events of the year. The program ran until around 20:00, and the venue itself was impressive. Wartsila’s headquarters reflect the company’s scale, and they had the logistics nailed – smooth check-in, good catering, and a presentation setup that worked flawlessly for the crowd size. The combination of enterprise cloud use cases from Wartsila and hands-on serverless patterns from Futurice gave the audience both strategic and tactical takeaways.

Hitting 100 attendees for the second time in 2022 confirmed that the AWS Finland User Group had established itself as one of the key tech community events in Helsinki. Thanks to Wartsila for an outstanding evening.
